Obituary for Thomas G. Garcia

Thomas G.  Garcia
Thomas G Garcia of Oracle, AZ passed away on April 2, 2018 at the age of 93. Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carmen L Garcia, children Lydia Verduzco (Oscar), Laura Santamarina (Mike), Tom Garcia (Lisa), Carmen Trejo (Alfred), Michael Garcia (Alejandra), Raquel “Kelly” Lumm (Damian), 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by first born Raquel.
He was born at home to Rafael and Catalina Garcia in the small village of San Jose, AZ in the Gila River Valley the youngest of 8 children. As a young man he worked alongside his father and brothers on the family farm.
A veteran of WWll, Tom proudly served in US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. Upon being discharged he returned to farming. Tom met Carmen in 1949 and they quickly discovered their mutual love of dancing. They were soon burning up the dance floor with their smooth moves. They married in 1951 and shortly thereafter started their family.
Tom farmed in the Duncan/Safford Valley until 1969 at which time he went to work for Magma Copper Co. /BHP until his retirement in 1991. Post retirement Tom & Carmen traveled with family and friends. Tom took up golfing and enjoyed the camaraderie the game offered. Tom’s pride and joy were his wife, his children and grandchildren; he would share their accomplishments and stories with all his friends who came to know his family through him. During the last four years he humbly and graciously accepted the help and loving care of his wife, daughters and caregivers in assisting him with many of his daily tasks. Tom's laughter, smile and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him. The family extends a special thank to Casa de La Luz Hospice staff and the private caregivers who provided exceptional care to him. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16th at Santa Catalina Catholic Church, 14380 N Oracle Rd, Catalina, AZ. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am. Reception to follow service. Arrangements by DESERT SUNSET CREMATION AND FUNERAL HOME.
